Mission Statement

The mission of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion is to establish a foundation of understanding and respect that offers opportunities for identity development while actively working towards dissolving systemic injustices. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that ensures positive education and individuality that brings us all together, aiming to create a positive global impact by dismantling barriers and promoting equity.

Vision Statement

We promote a world where understanding, respect, and inclusivity is the cornerstone of every community. Our office supports the Truman vision of creating a global environment that nurtures identity development for all. We foster inclusive spaces where we empower individuals to build a community that leads to a world where every person can thrive with dignity and equality. Through our efforts, we strive to be a driving force in creating lasting positive change at Truman and in the Kirksville community.

We accomplish this through FACS…

Facilitate and Educate:

• • We believe that education and experience are powerful tools for change. We facilitate open and honest conversations about diversity and inclusion through workshops, seminars, and training programs. Our aim is to enhance awareness and understanding, providing our community with the knowledge and skills needed to create a respectful and inclusive environment.

Advocate:

• • We advocate for the rights, individuality, and well-being of every member of our community. We are  vocal and active champions for diversity, equity, and inclusion. We work towards eliminating discrimination and bias, and we strive to create policies and practices that promote fairness and equal opportunities for all.

Celebrate:

• • We celebrate the rich mosaic of cultures, backgrounds, and identities that make up our community. Through events, initiatives, and celebrations, we highlight and honor the diverse achievements and milestones of our faculty, staff, and students. By fostering a sense of belonging and pride, we contribute to a vibrant and united community.

Support and Acknowledge:

• • We are intentional in providing support to all individuals who may face challenges due to their background, identity, or experiences. Our office serves as a resource hub, offering assistance, guidance, and a safe space for dialogue. We acknowledge and appreciate the unique perspectives and contributions that each person brings to our community.
